fascinating food facts and fun

August 22, 2014

I recently happened upon the Cornell University Food and Brand Lab. It is chock full of interesting goodies, and here are a couple that I recently read (with more to come, surely):

  • What’s With the Color of Your Plate? is an article about the amount of food people eat and how it’s affected by the degree to which the color of the food either contrasts or doesn’t with the color of the plate (as well as place mats and tablecloths). I won’t say what the principle is, so you have to read the article to see what it is. Apparently — and this is amazing to me — even knowing about this principle doesn’t stop it from having an effect.
  • The Perils of Large Plates: Waist, Waste, and Wallet is another interesting one, with similar kinds of issues afoot (awaist?).
